Sunil on Hawks’ Campaign in Season 2024

Bowling superstar,  Sunil, was the leading wicket tacker among the TSVM Cricket players in the season 2023. In BWCV Verbandsliga 2023, he sent batsmen 13 times back to pavilion in his 6 outings with an extraordinary economy rate of 4.25.  Last season, he also captained the TSVM Hawks. In an interview with Rohit Bohara, he revealed about his preparation for the BWCV Verbandsliga season 2024 and the journey of the Hawks so far in the season.

When did start playing cricket and what is your role currently in TSVM Hawks?
“I come from the silicon valley of India, Bengaluru. I started playing cricket with tennis ball and switched to club cricket during my pre-university days. Currently, I am a new ball bowler whose responsibility is to take wickets in powerpaly. My stock delivery is inswing. Occasionally, I bowl some outswing too. I want to excel in that and that’s the focus for this season. Additionally, I am a middle order right handed batsman, with favorite shots being sweep, pull and on drive. I enjoy fielding at all positions or places as needed in a match.”

What have you done to prepare yourself for season 2024?
“Preparation in my opinion should be constant and not based on season specific. As the days roll so easy and fast, everyday is a preparation. I usually work on fitness irrespective of cricket season. I run regularly as agility is very important for a cricket player. I try to run 50 to 100 kms per month along with some regular intervals of weight training.”

Does it help to start a season given the fact that you were leading wicket taker in the last season of Verbandsliga? How does it play out for your mindset?
“It indeed gives a great confidence boost to start and carry over that momentum from last season. Also, it pushes me to correct some of the areas and move forward for betterment as a new ball bowler where picking up wickets is very crucial in a powerplay.”

What challenges do you foresee for the Hawks this season?
“Challenges quite vary from season to season. We have
a new set of captains for both the formats this season, until things are settled and get in to the rhythm of the team, coordination would be an issue. But other than that I don’t see any major challenges as everybody is aware of their strengths and weaknesses in the team.”

How do you feel playing in the Hawks not as a captain this season? Does it help you to concentrate more on your personal skills?
“Yes, indeed, it helps immensely to focus and concentrate on my personal skills more. But as a player I have equal amount of responsibility to fulfill and contribute for the team’s success.”

TSVM Hawks have played exceptional cricket this season. They sit on top of the table after playing 6 matches. They have won 5 matches and have collected 20 valuable points. We wish to continue their winning way and qualify for the BWCV Regionalliga.
