At TSV Malmsheim Cricket, we recently had the pleasure of hosting a visit from the enthusiastic Nast Girls group on 9th June 2024. Their curiosity about cricket brought them to our facility, where they experienced the sport firsthand. Our skilled trainer, Deepak, led the session, ensuring it was both educational and enjoyable.
The Nast Girls
They are a group of around 20 “young at heart” women between the ages of 50 and 65. They are officially associated with Gymnastic department at the TSV Malmsheim. Their relationships go long back. Some of them started doing sports together over 50 years ago in the TSV’s “children’s gymnastics” department.
They train every thursday (1.5 hours) in the TSV sport hall in Malmsheim. During the winter months, this includes 45 minutes of gymnastics/back training and 45 minutes of volleyball (just for fun – no tournaments). During the summer, they go for a walk in the Malmsheim city forest.
Moreover, they also have plenty of fun through social activities. After their training session, they eat together in “Anna’s Tavern” and go on an annual “surprise trip”, which is always organized by a different team member from the group.
Warm-Up and Basics
The session kicked off with a fun and engaging warm-up exercise involving a ball. Deepak introduced the girls to the basics of catching and throwing, which are essential skills in cricket. This game not only helped them understand the mechanics of the sport but also served as a great icebreaker, making everyone feel comfortable and excited for what was to come.
Fielding Drills
Next up were running and throwing exercises designed to simulate fielding scenarios. The girls practiced sprinting to fetch the ball and accurately throwing it back, mimicking the actions of fielders during a match. These drills were not only informative but also a fantastic way to get everyone moving and having fun.
Bowling and Batting
The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the chance to try out bowling and batting. The girls were divided into groups of two and took turns practicing their bowling and batting skills. Deepak’s guidance ensured that even those new to the sport could grasp the basics and enjoy the experience. Laughter and cheers filled the air as the girls took their first swings and tried their hand at delivering the ball.
A Memorable Experience
By the end of the session, it was clear that the Nast Girls had a great time. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and it was heartening to see them enjoy the sport of cricket. After the training session, they joined the kids training session going in parallel. TSV Malmsheim Cricket has a junior cricket team which participates in BWCV Junior League. They will play their first match on 16 June in Karlsruhe. The Nast girls were delighted to see the progress of our junior cricket program and shared some tips also to introduce cricket to German kids. For TSV Malmsheim Cricket, this visit was a significant step in raising awareness about cricket in German sports culture. Introducing more people to this wonderful sport is a key goal for us, and events like this help us achieve it.
Promoting Cricket in Germany
Cricket is a sport with a rich history and widespread appeal, and we’re dedicated to promoting it here in Germany. Hosting groups like the Nast Girls not only helps spread knowledge about the game but also fosters a sense of community and shared interest in sports. We believe that cricket has the potential to become a beloved sport in Germany, and we’re excited to be part of that journey.
If you’re interested in learning more about cricket or want to experience the game yourself, we invite you to visit TSV Malmsheim Cricket. Our doors are always open to new enthusiasts, and we look forward to sharing the joy of cricket with more people.
